  Anti-Semitism Rears Its Ugly Head

February 3, 2015  Both the United States and Europe are witnessing a marked increase in anti-Semitism.  Outright killings of Jews, including children and pregnant women, have occurred in France and Belgium.  Jewish stores have been looted and in some European cities, orthodox Jews are afraid to wear yarmulkes.  Major politicians in Europe make blatantly anti-Semitic remarks with political impunity. In the United States, some college campuses are overtly hostile to Jewish students. Swastikas have appeared on Jewish fraternity houses. At the liberal bastion of Berkeley, a man waving an ISIS flag was either ignored or given the thumbs up sign. When the same man waved the Israeli flag, he suffered multiple incidents of verbal abuse. Apologists will note that Israel’s policies towards the Palestinians justify such hostility. This is simply nonsense. It is unheard of for anyone to attack Russians at random because of Putin’s policies in the Ukraine, or to blame those of Chinese descent for the oppression of Tibet. Why is it reasonable to attack Jewish children walking to school because of policy disagreements with Israel? Israel existed intermittently during Biblical times, its … [Read more...]

The Party Insiders Strike Again

On Tuesday, the Republican Party came roaring back. Even the most delusional Republican stalwart could not imagine winning at least eight U.S. Senate seats and increasing the number of House seats to around 250. But the real surprises came in the Gubernatorial races. Republicans not only won tough races in Florida, Michigan, Maine, Kansas and Wisconsin; but also won Gubernatorial elections in Maryland, Illinois and Massachusetts – states where Republicans barely outnumber Ivory Billed Woodpeckers. No state was riper for a Republican takeover than Connecticut. Governor Dan Malloy, with a 35% approval rating, was vulnerable. He proceeded to raise taxes to confiscatory levels, give sinecures with lavish pensions to his cronies while handing out taxpayer money to avaricious corporations and hedge funds. Connecticut is now the leading state where citizens are planning to leave. Our roads are a mess, our infrastructure is crumbling, our inner cities are war zones, jobs for young people are non-existent and our pensions are grossly underfunded. The only thing that is improving are the handicaps of our State’s early retirees. Enter the Republican Party Insiders, who specialize … [Read more...]

Joe Visconti Has Earned the Right To Run But He Should Drop Out

As a hard-core Republican, I believe Joe Visconti should drop out of the Governor’s race. His presence can do nothing but hurt the Republican nominee Tom Foley and if Dan Malloy holds the Governor’s mansion, Connecticut will no longer be on the ropes: it will be down for the count. We simply cannot afford to have a state government that is basically a criminal enterprise – shaking down taxpayers to pay off corporate cronies, creating six-figure sinecures for political insiders and pushing our young people out of the state. Having said that, Joe Visconti has earned the right to run. Connecticut is one of the few states in which Party Insiders determine who will be allowed on the ballot. Thus, prospective candidates must appear before numerous Town Committees in the hope of getting their support. Visconti played by the rules. I will never forget at one meeting where the Town Chairman introduced him as Joe Bentivegna (I was running for Congress in the Fourth District). I pointed out to the Chairman that although we both had Italian names, Joe Visconti was the tall handsome guy with good hair and I was the short, bald guy with thick glasses and big ears. We were not that hard to … [Read more...]
