The United States Must Acquire Greenland

But only if at Least 60% of Greenlanders Agree in a Referendum

January 19, 2026

The famous German philosopher, Wolfgang von Goethe once observed “The hardest thing to see is what is in front of your eyes.”

Exactly. Much of the world is in denial. Russia wants to restore its empire and eventually invade Eastern Europe. China is determined to dominate the entire planet. This is obvious to anyone who has not been brainwashed with an Ivy League education.

Thus if we Americans do not want our grandchildren to live under barbaric tyranny or live at all, we must accept reality.

Yet, Europe and America’s feckless ruling class deny reality out of the naïve belief that barbarians will make nice if you pander to them and because their hatred of President Trump supersedes their ability to employ deductive reasoning.

The first step is to make Greenland an American territory. This is not a new idea, and the United States already has a miliary presence there. In fact, President Truman tried to purchase Greenland for $100,000,000 in gold.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is the largest island on the planet and is half the size of the continental United States. Originally colonized by the Vikings over one thousand years ago, it once consisted of farmland and was green, thus the name.

But Greta Thunberg’s distant ancestor convinced Eric the Red to give up his Lear Jet and the process of global cooling began. Unable to support themselves, the Vikings started raiding Europe and even reached North America, causing an American football team to be named after them. Around the same time the Inuits (who were once called Eskimos) migrated to Greenland from Alaska and are the majority of Greenlanders to this day.

In the 1700s, Danish missionaries entered Greenland and eventually, Greenland became a Danish colony in in 1814. But after World War II, the United Nations asked Denmark to cease calling Greenland a colony and Denmark agreed, giving Greenland two seats in their Parliament. But Denmark embarked on a forced sterilization program of Greenlanders that was extremely unpopular. Thus in 2009, Denmark enacted legislation that enabled Greenland to become independent if they wish. Greenland’s future is now in the hands of its 56,000 inhabitants.

Enter President Trump who recklessly suggested taking over Greenland by military force. Europe quickly reacted saying that such action would mean the end of NATO with Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden sending troops to Greenland to ostensibly counter an American invasion. The people of Greenland overwhelming screamed a resounding “No” to an American takeover.

But just because President Trump is a wrecking ball doesn’t mean that he is wrong. The shortest route of nuclear missiles from Russia to the United States is over Greenland. Shipping lanes surrounding Greenland are routes for Russian and Chinese nuclear submarines to attack us from the Atlantic Ocean. Within the next few decades, laser technology will be capable of destroying hundreds of airborne nuclear missiles from space and from land-based locations in Greenland. President Reagan’s dream of rendering nuclear weapons “impotent and obsolete” will be realized.

Plus, Greenland is loaded with untapped oil and rare earth elements crucial for high-tech weapons.

To adequately defend ourselves and Europe, we must have sovereignty over Greenland. While Denmark has allowed us to place military bases in Greenland, we are subject to the vicissitudes of Danish politics, which could change on a dime. Afterall, when the Soviet Union was marching towards global domination before Ronald Reagan’s election, President Carter said Americans had “an inordinate fear of Communism” while liberals foolishly advocated for a nuclear freeze movement. Similar events could occur in Denmark at any time.

If President Trump is so adept at “the art of the deal” as he claims, it is time to give Greenlanders an offer they can’t refuse – full American citizenship, statehood connected to Maine, a million dollars each, continuance of the popular Danish welfare state and the free training of promising Greenlanders to be doctors and surgeons at American medical schools.

Then say to the Greenlanders, “We respect you. You are masters of your fate. This is a reasonable offer.”

And then humbly asking Greenlanders to vote by referendum. But it is crucial that this vote be a supermajority of at least 60%. If only 50.3% of Greenlanders want to join the United States, the chance of acceptance of our hegemony will be much less.

When the Cold War ended, America’ ruling class screwed up royally. They expanded NATO too rapidly, humiliating Russia and causing the Putin backlash. They accepted China into the World Trade Organization allowing its economy to boom under the naïve assumption that China would adopt democratic values despite millenniums of evidence to the contrary.

Now these same people belittle President Trump for exposing their failures but do not offer any solutions. NATO needs to be updated. Does America’s ruling class really believe the average American is willing to risk nuclear war if Russia invades Estonia as we are now required by treaty? Most Americans never heard of Estonia.

Russia and China understand only one thing – unbridled power and the willingness to use it. Nuclear weapons pointing at Russia and China from Greenland along with land-based laser defense systems guarantees our freedom. Not feckless Europeans who have already dragged us into two hideous world wars and want us to protect them from a third one while they pontificate mindless platitudes while hanging out at their beaches drinking fine Italian wines and gazing at attractive women in string bikinis.
