Every society has a Ruling Class and The United States is no exception. It consists of the super wealthy, those with Ivy League educations –especially Harvard and Yale; and those who ingratiate themselves with these two groups. The majority of our corporate chieftains, high level judges, star journalists, bureaucratic heads, academic leaders and major politicians come from this group.
Since President Trump won the election in 2016, our Ruling Class has been determined to remove him from office. Having failed to do so, they have finally realized that the ballot box is their only recourse. And they have decided upon the best candidate – Joe Biden. Thus, we are seeing glowing press and bogus polls pointing to his inevitability as the Democratic nominee.
Democrats should be suspicious. Our Ruling Class is not interested in policy, it is interested in power. And they do not like being on the outside looking in. But it was our Ruling Class who dragged us into unwinnable wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan. After trillions of dollars, tens of thousands of lost lives, millions of displaced people and civil wars in both Libya and Syria, you would think our Ruling Class would at least have a little humility. Think again.
And let’s not forget about the bail out of the Wall Street Welfare State, where our Ruling Class allowed our banks to lend money to anyone who walked in the door, made huge salaries in the process and then gave they bill to our grandchildren when the loans went belly up, so that they could keep bogeying on Martha’s Vineyard.
It was our Ruling Class who choreographed the Russian hoax in order to remove President Trump from office. The problem was that Hillary Clinton’s campaign paid for the fake Russian dossier that was used to obtain bogus FISA warrants to spy on the Trump campaign. Our Ruling Class is so incompetent they cannot even cheat without getting caught.
And the Democratic base wants to listen to these people? According to our Ruling Class, the Democrats have gone off the deep end, supporting Medicare for All, higher taxes on the super-rich and aggressively calling for more action on climate change. Only a centrist like Joe Biden can push these issues to the side or at least hoodwink enough Americans to sneak into the White House.
But this was the same Ruling Class that told the Democratic activists: “Be good boys and girls, forget about Bernie Sanders and get behind Hillary. Yes, we know that Sanders polls better than Trump. But that is just temporary. We know exactly what we are doing. Hillary has it in the bag.” How did that work out for you Democrats?
What our Ruling Class fails to realize is that many Americans are sick and tired of being ripped off by the insurance companies: $15,000 a year in premiums, $6,000 deductible while the CEOs and stockholders laugh all the way to the bank. I know fellow physicians who are hard core Republicans but who are so disgusted with our health care system, that they now favor Medicare for All.
And Americans are tired of the super wealthy gaming the system. The tax rate for those making money earned above $400,000 (about $5,000,000 in today’s money after adjusting for inflation) was 90% in the 1950s when President Eisenhower, a Republican, was in office. And the middle class did fine. Today the workers at McDonalds barely make minimum wage while the CEO rakes in $22,000,000 a year.
During the late 1960s, there was a popular sit-com called Hogan’s Heroes, set in German prison camp during World War II. A classic episode culminates with Colonel Hogan and the prison camp commander, Colonel Klink, peering at a bomb with a black wire and a white wire exposed. Cutting one wire would detonate the bomb while cutting the other would disarm it. Hogan asks Klink which wire to cut. Klink suggests the white one and Hogan immediately cuts the black one. When no explosion ensues, Klink says “You didn’t cut the one I suggested.” Hogan responds “I didn’t know which wire was the right one, but I knew you’d pick the wrong one.”
Exactly. Our Ruling Class is Colonel Klink. And they have chosen Joe Biden. Democrats beware. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
