Pundits from both sides of the aisle are analyzing Trump’s pick of Ohio Senator J.D. Vance for Vice President. Most postulate that he wants a like-minded acolyte to continue his legacy. Others believe Vance can attract more working-class voters from swing states. Others point out that Vance is a bright guy who will do well in debates.
There are several calculations when picking a vice-presidential candidate.
One is to appeal to a particular demographic. Trump did this himself when he chose Mike Pence to attract the Religious Right who had significant reason not to trust Trump. After all, Trump’s personal lifestyle is not a paragon of traditional values.
Thus, if Trump was trying to increase his appeal, the logical choice would have been Tim Scott to attract more Black voters. Some pundits believe a Nikki Haley pick would attract more suburban women, although if my neck of the woods of Fairfield County, Connecticut is any indication, the Trump choice of a reincarnated Ruth Bader Ginsburg would not help him with this demographic.
Another reason for a VP pick is to carry a specific state. Here the no brainer for Trump was to pick Governor Glen Youngkin of Virginia. This once reliable Republican state has gone Blue since Obama won it in 2008. But polls now show Trump to be leading there and should he win Virginia, he would almost certainly win the presidency.
So why pick Vance? He adds little further appeal.
The real reason is the Vance pick protects Trump himself.
Look at the world from Trump’s viewpoint. As soon as he descended the escalator at Trump Tower in 2015, he has been ridiculed and trashed by the media and our ruling class. Even establishment Republicans considered him a joke.
When he shocked the world and won, the media and ruling class were more than outraged. They screeched endlessly. They created the fake Russian hoax causing the loss of the House in 2018. This set up two impeachments. They used COVID as an excuse to legalize ballot harvesting, costing him reelection. Our FBI and CIA lied out of their teeth when they said that Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation. Polls showed that Trump would have won had this lie not been disseminated.
If Trump would have gone quietly into the sunset, there would have been no problem. But when he chose to run again, the knives came out.
Jean Carroll accused him of sexually assaulting her thirty years ago and a jury convicted Trump without a scintilla of objective evidence. This after a corrupt judge disallowed the jury from hearing that the jacket Carroll claimed to be wearing during the alleged assault was manufactured four years after the date she claimed the incident occurred.
And on it went. There was a $500,000,000 judgement for inflating real estate assets even though the presiding judge admitted no one lost a penny. He is looking at 134-year prison sentence for allegedly having a consensual affair with a porn star and using financial shenanigans to cover it up. A corrupt prosecutor in Georgia filed charges against him for trying to overturn the election. Then she used taxpayer money to hire her lover to take her on lavish vacations and perjured herself by denying it. Yet a corrupt judge allowed her to continue her persecution. And for the first time in American history, our government attacked a political presidential opponent by authorizing armed men to enter Trump’s house with orders to use “deadly force if necessary” over a silly argument over classified documents.
But what must have really terrified Trump is a bullet whizzing by his ear. The useless Secret Service is now in damage control blaming local law enforcement. The head of the Secret Service is an incompetent woman Kimberly Cheatle – who was hired only because she is a woman. She stated that no one could be assigned to cover the roof because the roof was sloped! And this DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) hire refuses to resign. With this woman in charge, Trump cannot even be sure the Secret Service will protect him.
The Secret Service is “investigating” the incident. One year from now, it will still be “an ongoing investigation.”
Just because you’re paranoid, does not mean they aren’t out to get you.
But with the like-minded Vance as his VP, our corrupt ruling class has a huge problem. Put Trump in jail, then deal with Vance. Impeach Trump if he wins, then deal with Vance. Convict Trump of another crime, then deal with Vance.
If our ruling class had not used legal legerdemain to rig the 2020 election, Trump would be finishing his second term, and this would be over. But now we have this mess. And if Trump loses in 2024, there is no evidence that he won’t be back in 2028. This guy does not give up.
